How are manufacturers incorporating sustainable materials in the production of biotechnology consumables?

Nov 15,2023

Today’s manufacturers are sincerely committed to making Biotechnology consumables more sustainable. One way they do this is by using bioplastic instead of regular plastic. These bioplastics are made from renewable resources such as plants or agricultural waste and are better for the surrounding environment. They can use these bioplastics to make things like petri dishes, pipettes, and microplates, and some of them are even compostable or biodegradable.
Another thing manufacturers are doing is using recycled materials in the manufacturing process. They make consumables from recycled plastic, which means they don't have to extract as much new raw material.
Sustainable sourcing is also an important focus for producers. They definitely want to source their raw materials from sustainable and renewable resources. For example, they might use wood fiber or pulp from forests (certified as sustainable) to make items such as filters or chromatography media.
Being green is an essential goal for all other manufacturers. They use technology to purchase energy, optimize production lines, and even use renewable energy assets to manufacture consumer products.

Waste reduction is also a priority. Manufacturers are working hard to reduce waste generated during the manufacturing process. They are looking for ways to apply materials more efficiently, minimize waste, and start packaging the waste they generate for recycling.
To get a true picture of the impact of their products, manufacturers are also doing something called existence cycle assessment. This allows them to figure out which parts of a product's life cycle have the greatest environmental impact, whether extracting raw materials, manufacturing the product, transporting the product or eliminating the product. Armed with this information, they can make informed decisions to reduce their overall environmental footprint.
In giving up, manufacturers actually commit to finding sustainable options and producing biotech consumer goods in a more environmentally friendly way. It’s all about reducing the impact and developing a more sustainable biotech industry.
