This is used for in vitro qualitative detection of carbapenemase enzymes including KPC, NDM, IMP, VIM, andOXA-48, which are produced by bacteria from human samples after culture. In clinical practice, it is used to identify patients' resistance to carbapenem antibiotics. Carbapenem antibiotics are one of the effective drugs for controlling clinical pathogenic infections, but carbapenemase-producing organisms (CPO) and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) have become a global public health problem due to their broad-spectrum resistance, and the treatment options for patients are very limited. Carbapenemases refer to a class of B-lactamases that can significantly hydrolyze at least imipenem or meropenem, including three types of enzymes classified by the Ambler molecular structure, A, B, and D. Among them, B-type enzymes are metallo-beta-lactamases (such as IMP, VIM, and NDM), also known as metalloenzyme imprints, mainly found in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Enterobacteriaceae. A and D-type enzymes are serine-type enzymes, with A-type enzymes (such as KPC) mainly found in Enterobacteriaceae and D-type enzymes (such as OXA) mainly found in Acinetobacter.
